What's up, Doc?

Owen enjoyed (?) his first doctor visit on August 7th. Pretty uneventful, which was a good thing. When Owen was born he couldn't hear out of his left ear, but the Doc thought it was due to amniotic fluid, sort of like "swimmer's ear" for babies. Upon a 2nd hearing test a couple weeks after birth, he passed the test with flying colors. We celebrated by blasting Phil Collins' "Sussudio" in his ears for hours at a time. Oh stop it, I'm kidding. -T

Big boy's fashion show.

Since you've all given Owen so many cool clothes, we thought it was only appropriate that he do a cyber-fashion-show for you this fine morning.

Out and about.

Within a couple of days after coming home from the hospital, we made a conscious effort to get out of the house with the little guy. Here are a couple of pics from our short excursion over to K's parents' house. We had a wonderful dinner, and Owen was there to help celebrate Bill & Claudette's 40th wedding anniversary.

Big day out.

We got out of the house and took a jaunt over to the ol' company store this week. Owen probably had no clue that he went on his first Target run because he was in Snoozeville the whole time, but that was okay with us. It just felt nice to get out and run a few errands.
Although not part of the Target run, here's a photo of Owen and Dad lounging, Target-style.

Owen's latest visitors.

Owen has had a few more visitors this week now that he's relaxing at home. He's been sleeping a TON because he's eating and growing so much, but when you catch him with his eyes open it's something special.

Katie, Whitney, Emily, Owen.
Caden makes a return visit.

Finishing touches.

The one minor thing we had left to do before Owen came home from the hospital was get artwork up on the walls in his room. For weeks, we've planned to get canvases made from some of my (Travis') late Grandpa's paintings. My G-pa, Clyde Robertson, was a really imaginative soul, having created everything from WWII technical illustrations of cannons and helicopters to political cartoons, even fine art. He recognized my creative streak when I was in my teens, and we'd talk about the world of advertising when I visited. (He used to be an Art Director at a St. Louis firm and I, at the time, was a college student who was passionate about going into the biz.)
Long story long, G-pa left me a children's book that he never could get published in the 1950s or 60s called Camping (interestingly, the box still has a return label from "McGraw Hill Publishing"). The main character in the story is even named after me, and the illustration style is based on the Dick & Jane books (in my opinion) although the animals were inspired by a store-bought book he had on hand called Hoof. So instead of his children's book collecting dust in our basement, we scanned and retouched images of the paintings, then ordered canvases to be made from some of the images. The faux woodgrain curtains that Katie made tie in nicely with the outdoorsy-ness of the work. And someday, I hope to rewrite the book-- his pictures, my words-- for a late, hopefully great collaboration. Hope you enjoy...

Who does Owen look like?

We've been getting this question a lot, so I pulled some photos together to do an "official" analysis. People have mentioned a few different people as shown below, but take a looksy and compare for yourself:

Owen.
Mike (Katie's bro).
Travis.
Katie.
Caden (our nephew).
"Katrav" (remember him?)

New friends.

Owen got the chance to meet some of his new friends and family the last couple of days in the hospital. Our nephew Caden (shown below) was very excited to have a boy cousin because Caden "has a lot of things he wants to teach him." Caden also asked when Owen will be able to "run" and "talk."
