When the Robertsons do a garage sale, we bring the people in droves: mini-van mamas, bicyclists, firemen, neighborhood riff raff, you name it. They were all here. This year was our 4th annual sale, billed as the "SUPER DUPER MEGASALE" on Craig's List, and consisting of about 8 friends/households' stuff.
Travis posted the wayfinding signs. Owen worked the crowd. And Mama Bird-and-friends helped shoppers scoop up the most valuable of bric-a-brac. Our most noteworthy shopper was "Emma Jean." We discovered that Emma Jean, an elderly woman who initially came off as a scholarly type, is obsessed with Finland (her native country) and is most likely "a couple sandwiches short of a picnic" if you know what I mean. The first day of the sale, she visited after we closed, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. She did purchase about $160 worth of merchandise. Thanks to the patience of K's mom, she managed much of Emma's first set of purchases. Then on the second day, Emma Jean came back...twice. She snatched up about $170 more of our crap, but decided to stay for another 4 hours total that day. We learned that she hates the medical community, she took care of a tumor on her thumb with cranberries, bought a 4-ft pink sequin x-mas tree to place in her bedroom all year round, met the Finnish President twice, and got kicked out of the Finland Club-- the very one she started here in Minneapolis.
Another memorable sale, what can we say. But it was a lot of work so we may have to wait a couple years before doing the big (insert loud, echo-y voice here) Megasale again.
